Bringing the Community Together
“From the warm, welcoming energy to the thoughtful details,
The Titled Map feels like a place where connection naturally happens.”
Where Every Cup Makes a Difference.
Welcome to The Tilted Map Cafe.
An extension of the Mountain Aid Project, we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit on a mission to strengthen our community by offering immediate relief in times of crisis & long-term support for sustainable development, while fostering inclusivity and driving change through the power of people, art, environment, & education.
Our passion is to create a space that is truly welcoming to all— a space where people can gather to share in conversation, connection, and creativity all while supporting the effort to rebuild and support Western North Carolina.
Whether it’s a cup of coffee, baked goods, or a piece of local pottery, you can be sure that you’re purchasing a product of love and that 100% of the proceeds are being reinvested into the mission to uplift our community.
What’s in a name?
The Earth tilts gently at 23.44°.
That precise, purposeful tilt gives us seasons, migration, shadow, rest, and growth. Without it, life as we know it would not exist.
It is forever shifting in small, nearly imperceptible adjustments; balancing itself as it hurtles through space but over the course of 2024, Earth’s axial tilt underwent a realignment more dramatic than its standard balancing act.
This realignment is just a part of our changing planet, but that change brings with it a new landscape, not just for Western North Carolina, but for us all.
Shorter days, intensity of seasons, even an increase in the factors that lead to extreme weather events like Hurricane Helene.
But our planet is not the only thing that can adapt.
The outpouring of support and care that happened in the wake of Helene, the coming together of communities to rebuild, to protect, to feed, clothe, and house those affected by disaster, to take care of each other– this too is a realignment.
The Tilted Map takes its name from this truth.
Change is not a flaw. It’s function. Balance isn’t static. It’s something we continually find, lose, and find again.
Like the Earth, we learn to hold our center while allowing the tilt.
To rest and to pursue.
To receive help and to offer it.
Everyone deserves a spot on the M.A.P.
And we’re honored to share this space with you.
Rooted in Local Love
Everything we serve and share is rooted right here in Western North Carolina.
We proudly serve Ingenious Coffee, roasted nearby in Marion and herbal teas from The Asheville Tea Company. Our baked goods are either prepared fresh in-house or by local bakers who bring passion and talent to each bite. All of our retail items, whether it’s local honey, clothing, pottery, or paintings, are a product of local creativity and care.
From the coffee in your cup to the art on the walls, this space reflects the creativity, resilience and soul of our community.
